I’ve got to admit it, I would be really hard pressed to pick between Facebook and YouTube when it comes to marketing my local business or home-based business. Of course the good news is, I don’t have to choose between them. I can use boat. So today, let’s talk about the power of video, and how it can really help you connect your business, your product, your offering with people in your local market area who are searching for exactly what you have to offer.
First, a little bit of background. YouTube is owned by Google, and that’s a very good thing when it comes to getting your business noticed by the first and second-largest search engines on planet earth. We’ll talk more about the connection between Google and YouTube in future videos. That’s something for another day. Today I want to give you a little plan of action for how you can use Videos to effectively show off your local business or home-based business, especially in your specific town or area where you do business.
Video Is Super-Powerful For Local / Home-Based Business Marketing
The power of video is simple. When people are looking for a specific business to do certain tasks for them, they want to be able to know, like, and trust the person they do business with. We’ve all heard that 1 million times before, and it’s absolutely, positively true. But, how do people come to know, like, and trust you? Well, one of the best ways to do that is through the power of video. No matter what business you’re in, or service you offer if you can show exactly what you do the quality of the work you do, people will be much more attracted to your business.
Let me tell you about what I call the five, five, one video marketing method. What you’re going to do, as the business owner, is create a series of five short videos-they don’t have to be very long-maybe two or three minutes each. Each video will show a simple thing that you can teach your audience about what you do. For example, let’s say you’re a plumber. You might show the easy way to unclog a drain, or the easy way to use a plunger on a stopped up toilet. Create five of those different videos again, all just two or three minutes each, and post them to YouTube.
The Five – Five – One Video Marketing Method (Try It!)
Also, you’re going to create four or five more videos, based on things that your customers don’t really know how to do. In fact, these might be tips and tricks that a customer might not even know to ask for. Perhaps it’s something like your favorite way to do a specific job, that relates to the business that you’re in. A fancy and expensive tool that you use to do your job, that any customer can buy at the local Home Depot or other store and get a great benefit from.
This is your opportunity to really show and demonstrate your authority and expertise. You really want to let customers know that when trouble strikes you are the person to call. Of course I’ve been talking about a plumber here, if you do lawn maintenance or pool care, it’s not a matter of win trouble strikes. Yet it may be time for a customer to find a new pool maintenance person, and if you’ve been putting out great information in the past, things they can do to take care of their pool without a regular service, when they do need somebody, you are the person they’re going to call.
Then, last but not least, is the one or two what I call call to action videos. These are more of a straight sales pitch. You talk about your expertise, the area of your community that you serve, your years in business, awards, all that sort of thing. And of course you’re including your contact information: email address, website, telephone number, hours of operation, all of that. You list that in the video, again just two or three minutes.
Now here’s the cool part. Every other video that you have published is going to have a link to this particular call to action video. So, as people find your answers and your solutions, and see that you are truly an expert in what you do, if they really need to find you they can always use the link to the main video that has all of your important information.
Of course, most of that information should be listed in the description box of every video you do. I’ll demonstrate what that looks like in the future video but for now, know that every video posted to YouTube has a box that allows you to type in information about the video, about your business, or anything else that you would like to put out to customers.
Video marketing for local businesses and home-based businesses is super-powerful. I hope you’ll give it good consideration as you build your full spectrum marketing plan for your small business.
